about

Fringes was born in August 2018 at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival. During a week spent lugging our instruments around to busk on the corners of Old Strathcona, running into familiar faces and meeting performers from all over the world. We took every opportunity we had to improvise: noting which melodies arose and settled into our hands and ears.

Jonathan Chavez joined us one afternoon, and somewhere in-between sets, Fringes appeared; immediately, it found a home within our sound.

After a surprise visit from a friend, we found ourselves crammed into a car, driving around our city to catch performances from some other pals. The day closed on a grassy hill, staring at a violet-orange sky against Edmonton’s cityscape before heading back to the grounds for one final set.

These days, there’s seldom a show where Fringes doesn’t make an appearance. Thank you for your years of cherishing this tune live. Your support has encouraged us to release it for your taking, wherever the day carries you.
